Baby Buried Under The Wing Of A Baby Buried Under The Wing Of A Swan 6 Thousand Years Ago
A poetic proof that human beings who are studied by archeology as objects are actually as human as we are and have endearing behaviors.
A recent archaeological discovery in Vedbaek, Denmark, shows a young woman being placed in her tomb along with a baby, which was wrapped in a swan’s wing. The so-called “tomb 8” at this site has been interpreted from various perspectives, some of which suggest that the swan is a symbol of purity or that it could have a soteriological function linked to its ability to “transcend water, earth and air”.
The tomb shows clear signs that it was intentionally arranged in this way.
It is fascinating to explore the concepts of death and life after death that could have been held by such distant cultures; however, there is still a strong component of our own mental projection.
