
‘300 and 3000’ – Messi has a super assist, reaching a historic milestone with Mbappe
Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe both made their mark when PSG won at Brest.
Paris St Germain came to visit Brest in round 27 of Ligue 1. The top team met the team that was racing for relegation, but PSG had a tough 90 minutes, with a 2-1 goal scored in the 90th minute.
That goal was a combination of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, two bright stars expected in the context that Neymar had to leave the season early after ankle surgery.

Messi was the one to make the pass for Mbappe to escape, surpassing the opponent’s goalkeeper to score, helping PSG increase the gap with Marseille to 11 points. Notably, with Mbappe’s launch, Messi became the first player in history to reach 300 assists at club level.

In total, El Pulga has scored 701 goals and has provided 300 assists since making his Barcelona debut in 2004. Messi has also contributed 13 goals and 13 assists in 22 Ligue 1 appearances this season.

Another 10 years gap, the 1,000th goal was scored on May 24, 1991, in Francis Borelli’s last game as club president, against Nancy at the Parc des Princes.

The victory over Brest helps PSG to have 66 points and maintain the number one position on the Ligue 1 rankings. They are 11 points ahead of second-place Marseille. This is considered the only major goal of the Paris capital team for the rest of the season.
