Odessos Giant: Skeleton Unearthed in Varna, Bulgaria
Earlier in May 2015, rescue excavations in Varna, Bulgaria discovered the skeleton of a giant buried beneath the fortress walls of the ancient city of Odessos.

Initial reports indicated that scientists were surprised by the size of the bones found in the area, leading to the conclusion that the person lived in the 4th or 5th century.
The skeleton was revealed during a salvage excavation conducted by archaeologists from the Varna Archaeological Museum (also known as the Varna Regional History Museum).
According to Professor Dr Valeri Yotov, who led the team that carried out the excavation there, the size of the skeletons were “impressive” and they belonged to “a very tall man”. However, Yotov did not reveal the exact height of the skeleton.
Varna archaeologists also found remains of the Odessos fortress wall, fragments of earthen vases and a hand mill from late antiquity.
“As we began to explore the ancient fortress wall, we began to ask ourselves a lot of questions, and of course, we had to keep digging to get to the base of the wall. That’s how we stumbled upon the skeleton,”—Dr. Valeri Yotov

Archaeologists discovered that the body was originally buried at a depth of meters. Since tombs of this depth were rare, they assumed that the pit must have been dug up as a construction ditch at the time the fortress wall of Odessos was being erected.
According to Professor Yotov, this person died while working, and the fact that he was buried with his hands on his waist and his body facing east is evidence of a ritual burial.
While archaeologists found nothing particularly remarkable about their discovery, many researchers wonder where the skeleton came from. Many experts assert that prehistoric humans are an example of “the long-extinct race of giants Atlantis”.
This is not the first time the skeleton of an unusually large individual has been discovered in Eastern Europe. The skeleton of a giant warrior from 1600 BC was discovered in 2012 near Santa Mare, Romania.

The warrior, known as “Goliath”, is over 2 meters tall, which is quite unusual for the time and region as most individuals are short-lived (about 1.5 meters on average). An impressive dagger representing a warrior’s great status was found with him in his grave.
Do all these amazing discoveries prove that giants once roamed Europe? Is the race of the giants of Atlantis a difficult fact of human history? Are myths based on real events that happened in the distant past?
